2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba daily fantasy golf picks, strategy & values

The PGA Tour returns this week at the 2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba. We've got your daily fantasy golf picks, strategy and values here.

ohl-classic-mayakoba-logo.png

The 2015 - 2016 PGA Tour season continues this week at the 2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Charley Hoffman is your defending champion, but he'll have to hold off a flurry of big names if he wants to repeat. We've got your DraftKings fantasy golf picks ready. Let's get crackin'.

Strategy

Winning in daily fantasy sports on sites like DraftKings or Fanduel is next to impossible, especially if you only enter one lineup per contest. The sheer volume of players who enter each contest total the tens of thousands, shrinking your odds of winning anything -- especially a profit -- minuscule. As long as you are willing to accept that risk, then DFS contests can be a lot of fun.

As we’ve discussed on multiple podcast episodes and posts, strategy is everything when it comes to a massive fantasy golf system like DraftKings. Pat Mayo over at RotoExperts.com is the best at explaining all the stats you should consider when making your picks, which boil down to:

  1. Strokes Gained: Putting
  2. Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green

Aside from that, I like to play the “hot hands” every week; those players who have placed in the Top-10 or higher in recent tournament weeks, whenever possible.

Will this strategy work? Or will I get shutout of the money again this week? Only time will tell.

Best Value

Brendan Steele ($9,900) has played quite well at Mayakoba, having finished T-16 and third in his last two starts. Steele is averaging a whopping 87.2 DFS points this year in three events played and already has a top-10 tournament finish under his belt.

Best of the Rest

  • Patrick Rodgers $10,500
  • Harris English $10,200
  • Russell Knox $10,000
  • Will Wilcox $9,400
  • Brian Harmon $8,500
  • Kevin Streelman $8,000
  • Boo Weekley $7,900
  • Peter Malnati $7,400
  • Jerry Kelly $7,000

DraftKings Fantasy Golf Picks for the Week

  1. Harris English $10,200
  2. Brendan Steele $9,900
  3. Brian Harmon $8,500
  4. Kevin Streelman $8,000
  5. Brett Stagmaier $7,800
  6. Domenico Geminiani $5,600

DraftKings fantasy golf picks: 2015 PGA Championship

The 2015 PGA Championship tees off this week and we have your DraftKings fantasy golf picks right here! Plus, play for FREE using our promo code.

wanamaker-trophy-grass-e1439220151210.jpg

The final major of the year tees off this week as the best golfers in the world (and Tiger Woods) converge onto Whistling Straits in Wisconsin for the 2015 PGA Championship. There are many DraftKings fantasy golf pick values in play this week, so let's get right into it. Remember to click the banner below and use promo code UNFILTERED to play for free!

Rory McIlroy may be in the field this week, but Jordan Spieth is easily the favorite heading in, having won The Masters and US Open earlier this season. He's the highest-priced pick this week ($12,500) and deservedly so. Luckily, there are multiple high-value "scrubs" at DraftKings this week, so go ahead and add Spieth to your roster free of worry.

Louis Oosthuizen has fallen back to earth a bit since his strong showing at the British Open, but his moderately-high DraftKings salary ($9,100) is still worth your consideration for the PGA. King Louis seems to only show up at majors, and his mastery of the links-style Chambers Bay and St. Andrews should be more than enough to convince you he'll do the same at Whistling Straits this week.

James Morrison is a name more common on the European Tour, which may play into his insane value of $7,200 this week. Morrison has only played one PGA Tour event this year but managed 15 birdies and 49 pars, leading to a strong 70.3 fantasy point average in that start. He's got one win on the Euro Tour this year -- The Spanish Open in May -- and has three straight top-25 finishes in his last three starts.

Danny Lee is another value pick at $7,100 despite his strong showing at last week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (T-6). He has a streak of five top-25 finishes in his last six events, including his first career PGA Tour win at The Greenbrier in a playoff. He did miss the cut at last month's British Open, however, which begs the question on how he'll hold up in the spotlight of a major.

How in the world is Patrick Reed priced at just $7,600 this week? The polarizing PGA youngster has made 20 of 22 cuts this year including a win in Hawaii back in January. He's averaged over 75 fantasy points per tournament start. He's got four top-10's this year. You'll be stupid not to put him on your DraftKings roster for the year's last major.

Finally, Brendan Steele might be the 'steal' of the week. At only $6,500 in DraftKings dollars, you're getting top-value for Steele's four top-10's, 16 eagles, 286 birdies and 17-of-20 made cuts this year. No, he probably won't win the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday, but Steele is a lock to make the weekend.

DraftKings Fantasy Golf Pick Roster

  1. Jordan Spieth
  2. Louis Oosthuizen
  3. Patrick Reed
  4. James Morrison
  5. Danny Lee
  6. Brendan Steele

Riding solo again on this episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast, but that doesn't mean we can't have a great discussion on golf nerdy things! How informed are you about the golf products you purchase? Today's episode opens with a brief commentary on what goes in to the golf equipment reviews here on the site, as well as some of the challenges I face when trying to bring you reviews on the latest and greatest toys in the industry.

In the spirit of true transparency, there are times when I can't test a piece of equipment in an ideal environment (i.e., on a golf course during a round). What happens in those cases? Listen to learn more!

The second half of the episode focuses on our DraftKings fantasy golf picks for this week's 2015 Quicken Loans National. What strategy do I use when making my picks each week? Could it be the reason why I haven't won a dime yet? Why am I so bad?!

DraftKings Fantasy Golf Picks: 2015 Quicken Loans National

The 2015 Quicken Loans National tees off this week on the PGA Tour. We've got your DraftKings fantasy golf picks ready and waiting.

quicken-loans-national-golfjpeg-0d3f2-e1438039199534.jpg

The PGA Tour makes its first-ever tour stop at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. for this week's 2015 Quicken Loans National. We've got your DraftKings fantasy golf picks ready to go, so let's cut to the chase. Justin Rose is the defending champion when this tournament was held at Congressional Country Club in 2014. He has certainly hit his groove this season, carding a strong finish at the British Open two weeks ago. He's done more than enough to earn his spot on your fantasy golf roster.

Will Wilcox and Russell Knox might seem like surprising picks this week, but both have been on fire as of late. Wilcox was a runner-up at the Barbasol a couple weeks ago and is leading the Tour in all-around scoring. Similarly, Knox has posted four top-25's in his last five starts, is tenth on Tour in greens-in-regulation and isn't afraid of stronger-field events.

Chesson Hadley and Blaine Barber are far from household names, but both have put together strong fantasy golf point finishes throughout the year. Hadley is averaging over 58 fantasy points per tournament, having made 17 of 25 cuts this year. Barber is a completely longshot this week, but also averages over 50 fantasy points and has four top-1o's in 2015.

Then of course we have Tiger Woods. I'm telling everybody right now: Tiger will win a golf tournament this season. He may only be averaging 43.3 fantasy points this season and has only made five of nine cuts, but his performance at The Greenbrier showed that there's still something left in the tank. Granted, he played like absolute garbage at St. Andrews at the British, but he's won the Quicken Loans National twice in his career (2009 and 2012, both at Congressional).

DraftKings Fantasy Golf Roster

  1. Justin Rose
  2. Russell Knox
  3. Will Wilcox
  4. Blayne Barber
  5. Chesson Hadley
  6. Tiger Woods

2015 WGC Cadillac Championship fantasy golf picks

The 2015 WGC Cadillac Championship returns to Doral this week. Here are our fantasy golf picks for the next PGA TOUR event.

WGC-Cadillac-Championship-e1394030938433.jpg

The PGA TOUR returns to Doral this week to take on The Blue Monster at the 2015 WGC Cadillac Championship. Patrick Reed is your defending champion, but you probably already knew that because he IS A BRAGGART. Yes, that's the first time I've ever used that word in a blog post. Here's our fantasy golf picks for the week!

WGC Cadillac

Bubba Watson (no. 2) and Jim Furyk (no. 6) are the highest-ranked American golfers on the Official World Golf Rankings -- both of whom are playing very well this season -- so it would be foolish to leave them off your roster this week. I still find it hard to believe that Bubba is the second best player on the globe, but I'm not good at math and will just blindly believe whatever the OWGR tells me (because the internet). What should be more convincing is the fact that Bubba's got two top-10 finishes in his three starts and Furyk has one in two. BUT MATH IS IMPORTANT.

Jason Day is going to win a Major this season, I guarantee it. He's come too close too often, and his win this year at the Farmers Insurance Open speaks volumes to the state of his game. The same can be said about Brandt Snedeker (expect for that "winning a major" thing), who also has a 'W' under his belt in 2015. Yes, we can also say the same about Jimmy Walker, but his win was in Hawaii at the Sony Open which means he obviously hacked his way to the trophy and he's a cheater. Graeme McDowell isn't going to win this week, but I played golf/got drunk with him once:

Adam and Graeme

Patrick Reed is the obvious smart play this week. He's also already won in 2015 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, which really sounds more like a WWE pay-per-view than a golf tournament.

This main event has been a slobberknocker, King! This Reed kid sure is special. Hes going to change the history of pro wrestli... OHMYGAWD. THAT'S SERGIO GARCIA'S MUSIC.

Charley Hoffman cut his hair and took 2nd place in a golf tournament. Sports Clips should make that their new slogan, even though they had absolutely nothing to do with Charley's improved golf game.

Fantasy Golf Picks: 2015 Northern Trust Open

Here are our fantasy golf picks for this week's 2015 Northern Trust Open, where Bubba Watson is the defending champion.

PLA_NTO-Priceless-Perks_-LOGO.jpg

The stars are out at the 2015 Northern Trust Open as many of the biggest names on the PGA TOUR return to Riviera Country Club. These are the weeks that make choosing your fantasy golf picks even more fun, so let's get right into it.

Northern Trust

This will be the first PGA TOUR start for Sergio Garcia in 2015, making him a tempting start this week. I highly anticipate Garcia to have a great season -- possibly to the tune of finally winning his first major championship -- so what better way to get started than at Riviera. Bubba Watson is the defending champion, having held off Dustin Johnson by two-shots in 2014. Bubba hasn't played especially well as of yet, but there are a limited number of courses like Riviera that suit his game this well (Augusta National and Kapalua being the others).

Brandt Snedeker was last week's winner at Pebble Beach, making him a solid "hot-hand" start at the Northern Trust. Nick Watney was also in the mix throughout the final two rounds last week, and Jordan Spieth is bound to break out of his slump at some point. Spieth showed flashes of good play at Pebble, earning himself about 10 minutes of television time during the final round. He'll also be part of a marquee group that includes Garcia and Fred Couples. Hunter Mahan is a decent sleeper pick as he's played relatively well at Riviera in the past.

Justin Thomas is going to be the surprise player of the year, plain and simple. He's got two top-10s in four starts this season (three since November 2014), and with the exception of missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open two weeks ago he has played well enough to accumulate more than $600,000 this year. Thomas is going to win a tournament this year, guaranteed.

Fantasy Golf Picks: 2015 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am

Fantasy golf picks for this week's 2015 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

pebble.jpg

The boys from the PGA TOUR return to Pebble Beach this week for the 2015 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. We've got our fantasy golf picks up and ready for what is sure to be another photo-finish this week. PebbleBeach

Jason Day was last week's winner on TOUR, capturing the Farmers Insurance Open in a four-man playoff for his third win overall. He's back in the field at Pebble and is an automatic no-brainer for fantasy golf players. The same can be said for Patrick Reed, who also has a victory in 2015 already and looks to stay hot this week.

Jimmy Walker is hand's down the best American player at the moment, having accumulated three top-10 finishes in each of his three starts in 2015 (two of which were top-3). His win at the Sony Open last month cemented himself as a viable threat to his peers as well as his spot on your fantasy golf roster.

While players like Billy Horschel and Jordan Spieth have started their years slower than expected, look for them to pick up their games sooner rather than later. They are solid bench players for this week, along with last week's runner-up J.B. Holmes.

Finally, Ryan Palmer is the top choice in Yahoo's A-Group, having recorded two top-10 and a top-3 finish already this season. Palmer has always been a streaky player on TOUR, so now's the time to start him on your roster before he cools off again (which is bound to happen).

Which players are you starting and sitting this week on your fantasy golf team? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below. You can also share your team with me on Twitter at @adamjfonseca or you can reach us on Facebook. We promise to not make fun of your team too much.

Fantasy Golf Picks 2015 : Farmers Insurance Open

Here are our Fantasy Golf picks for the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open. And no, there is no chance we're going with the Big Cat.

farmers-insurance.jpg

We're a little tardy publishing our 2015 Fantasy Golf picks, but better late than never, right? The 2015 Farmers Insurance Open tees off this week and The Big Cat's opening odds are listed at 50-to-1. Yep, you read that correctly; Tiger Woods is damn-near a longshot to win at Torrey Pines, where he has won eight times prior to this year. But how can you blame the sleazy mafia bosses that set the odds in Vegas? Tiger turned the Waste Management Phoenix Open into a twilight hit-and-giggle last week, missing the cut in monumental fashion. The man can't even hit a chip shot to save his tooth, let alone put himself into contention.

So who do we like for this week's tournament. Take a look:

Fantasy Golf Farmers

Don't let the fact that you can't recognize many of those names fool you. Brooks Koepka won last week and is apparently the Great White Hype among my fellow swarmy Twitter goofballs.

See? It's like this guy walks on water, which wouldn't be surprising to me in the least. His name is "Brooks" after all.

Hideki Matsuyama might be the biggest sleeper of 2015, and by judging by his recent play (two top-3's in three events) my after-the-fact predictability talents are as honed as ever. His shot during last week's tournament is already a contender for Shot of the Year, supported mainly by a fictitious email I received from Mama Matsuyama.

Truth be told, expect big things from Keegan Bradley this week. The die-hard New England Patriots fan is sure to be riding the coattails of his team's success in Super Bowl XLIX, because fantasy sports are weird and that's just how it works. I'm predicting a Top-5 finish for that googly-headed monster.

Open Championship 2014: Fantasy Golf Picks

Open-Championship-Crest_480-e1405521919979.jpg

open championship 2014I can't go with The Big Cat. I can't do it. I'm sorry. Yes; it is very tempting to use Tiger Woods as a fantasy golf pick for this week's 2014 Open Championship. Back surgery or no, it's still Tiger freakin' Woods. He won the last Open at Hoylake in 2006. He's the greatest player of this generation.

He's also not going to win this week. Sorry, I'm a realist.

That being said, my fantasy golf picks for the week are all pretty conservative. Adam Scott and Justin Rose are the best players on the planet, and that's not totally taking into account their respective World Golf Rankings (1 & 3). Henrik Stenson (no. 2) also belongs in that conversation. These three men alone have taken over the sport and don't seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Rory McIlroy is doing typical weird Rory things, but he's still a decent pick this week. If we can find a way to have him skip the second round, he'll be in good shape. Hopefully.

Jimmy Walker is my only American choice for the week. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing for the stars and stripes. Regardless, I feel he's at the pinnacle of his ability and as such should be shown respect. Walker could steal the Claret Jug right from under everyone's noses.

Martin Kaymer is riding the German Hot Streak and should be in contention near week's end. Could he win both Opens this year? He's already got the US national title, and if the World Cup taught us anything, it's that it's really good to be a German athlete these days.

That leaves us with Freddie Jacobson and Sergio Garcia. There are probably stronger plays than both of these gents, but something tells me Freddie is going to win a major at some point in his career, and I refuse to believe Sergio can't do the same.

U.S. Open 2014: Fantasy Golf Picks

2014-US-OPEN_LOGO-e1402337502866.jpg

us open 2014The 2014 U.S. Open Championship returns to Pinehurst, North Carolina this week, and as is usually the case with major championships, the number of storylines is huge. Will Phil Mickelson put aside his recent off-course troubles to finally capture the elusive U.S. Open crown, thus completing his career grand slam? Can Masters Champion Bubba Watson go two-for-two in major titles this year, inching him closer to a season's Grand Slam? Will the young Jordan Spieth -- quite possibly the future of American golf -- defy the odds and become one of the youngest Open winners of all time?

Let's not forget about the veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez, who at 50-years old is playing the best golf of his career en route to two victories already this year. If he wins this major, social media will explode, the golf world will instantly become intoxicated, and I'll dance the tango down Interstate-88.

My favorite fantasy golf pick this week, however, is Jason Day.

Day has been a contender in almost every major championship over the past two years. The young Australian tends to peak four times a year, and it is only a matter of time before he finally breaks through and wins his first career major. Look for him to have another strong showing this week at Pinehurst, and don't be surprised to see him come out with the victory.

Fantasy Golf 2014: HP Byron Nelson Championship

nelson-logo.jpg

hp byron nelson 2014The next PGA Tour stop this week is at the 2014 HP Byron Nelson Championship from the TPC Four Seasons Resort and Club Las Colinas in Irving, Tx. Sang-Moon Bae is your defending champion, and also a great name for a vacation destination. Martin Kaymer is the popular fantasy golf pick this week having won The Players Championship less than a week ago. He also finished in a tie for fifth at this tournament in 2013, so he should definitely find his way on your fantasy golf pick roster.

Keegan Bradley is another obvious choice this week, having finished runner-up to Bae in 2013. The fidgety Bradley has played consistently well this season and seems on the cusp of adding another trophy to his resume. He also seems to be on the brink of crapping his pants, but I digress.

Jimmy Walker is also a pick this week, and it has everything to do with the fact that he's still won three times this season. I'm also afraid that his wife, Erin, will beat me up if I don't.

Who are your fantasy golf picks for this week? Let me know in the comments below.

Fantasy Golf 2014: Wells Fargo Championship

download.jpg

fantasy golf quail hollow 2014The PGA Tour returns to Quail Hollow for this week's Wells Fargo Championship, a popular place for some of the biggest names in the sport. Derek Ernst captured his first win on Tour at this event last year. Don't expect that to happen again.

Why? Because guys like Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Gary Woodland have been playing stellar golf over the last few months. Fowler had a strong showing at The Masters earlier in the month (T-5), and McIlroy is moments away from having another break-out season (if that's even possible). Woodland can overpower any golf course on the planet (and probably other planets as well). Oh, and don't forget about Jim Furyk; the crafty veteran who always sneaks by with a win or two during the year.

This is also a great tournament to load up on some less-common fantasy golf picks. I went with Kevin Chappell and Jamie Donaldson, for example, since both have played relatively decent this season. Quail Hollow fits the game for a wide range of players.

Fantasy Golf 2014: RBC Heritage

rbc-logo.jpg

2014 rbc heritageThe PGA Tour returns to Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, SC for this week's 2014 RBC Heritage. Graeme McDowell is your defending champion, but there are a number of other players who could be strong fantasy golf picks. Jordan Spieth, for example, returns to action after an impressive run at last weeks Masters. The 20-year old golf phenom likely has no issue settling for the tartan jacket awarded to this week's winner, and I suspect another strong week from the young man.

Matt Kuchar is also back after his strong showing at Augusta, despite having a shaky final round on Sunday. His flat swing and smooth tempo has done well at this tournament in the past, and Kuchar has only finished outside the top 25 twice in any tournament this season. Put him on your fantasy golf roster.

Bill Haas and McDowell round out my starting lineup for the week, with the former holding the 18-hole lead at last week's major and the latter being this week's defending champion.

Fantasy Golf 2014: The Masters

The-Masters-e1428618174714.jpg

the masters 2014It's the most wonderful time of the year! The season's first major tees off this week at The Masters from legendary Augusta National Golf Club, so get your fantasy golf rosters ready because this week is going to be special. Yes, we all know that Tiger Woods is out of the tournament. Boo-hoo, whatever will fantasy golfers do? You're going to pick Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy on your roster, that's what. Both men are easily the favorites heading into the week, and don't be surprised in the least if Scott successfully defends his title come Sunday.

Jason Day is another must-have on my fantasy golf picks this week. He absolutely loves playing at Augusta National and has done so incredibly well over the last few years. The same can be said for Phil Mickelson, bad back and all. Look for Lefty to be in the mix by Saturday, as evidenced by a solid showing in Houston last week.

Could this be the year that Sergio Garcia finally breaks through at a major? He's ranked sixth in the world -- his highest ranking in decades -- and seems to be firing on all cylinders headed into this week. Oh, and let's not forget Jimmy Walker, who has three tournament victories already this golf season.

Fantasy Golf: Shell Houston Open 2014

shell_houston_open_logo-e1396442860303.jpg

fantasy golf 2014 shell houstonWe are only one week away from The Masters, so that means the PGA Tour returns to the Golf Club of Houston to play this week's 2014 Shell Houston Open. A lot of big names are in the tournament field as many are using this Tour stop as their tune-up for Augusta. Matt Kuchar has been on a tear lately, amassing three top-10 finishes in his six starts so far this season. Last year's FedExCup winner Henrik Stenson has gotten off to a slow start in 2014, but that doesn't mean he can't turn his game around just in time for the year's first major.

Jordan Spieth also has three top-10's in his eight starts, making him one of the best fantasy golf picks this week in Houston. Keegan Bradley has been hovering around the winner's circle all year and it will only be a matter of time before he pulls through in a tournament.

Sergio Garcia and Charl Schwartzel won't win this week, but I'm betting both display strong tournaments as they prepare for their respective Green Jacket bids.

Fantasy Golf Picks: Arnold Palmer Invitational 2014

164622089-e1395147966597.jpg

fantasy golf bay hillThe Arnold Palmer Invitational is this week's PGA Tour stop, which means all of us just got a little bit cooler. Playing in the King's back yard has to be amazing for these guys, and Tiger Woods has won this tournament the most out of everyone. He's the defending champion, he's due for a good tournament in 2014, and he should be one of your fantasy golf picks this week.

There's a good mix of popular and "unknown" golfers in the field this week, so it might not be a bad idea to branch out a little and experiment. While I decided to go with that clown Patrick Reed, I also went outside my comfort zone and chose Kevin Na in my C-roster. He may be slower than molasses in January, but Na did finish in second place at last week's Valspar Championship. He might be worth a play.

Similarly, Robert Garrigus was in contention most of last week (before he got "Kevin Na'd"). Long hitters always have an advantage at Bay Hill, and there aren't may longer than Garrigus. As long as he can get his short-stick working, Garrigus will be in contention again come Sunday.

UPDATE -- Since Tiger has withdrawn from the tournament, I've gone with Adam Scott as his A-List replacement on my bench and gave Reed the start. Adam Scott has Tiger's old swing anyway, so it's like nothing even happened!

Fantasy Golf Picks: Valspar Championship 2014

ValsparChampionshipBBT-e1394631013454.jpg

valspar championship 2014The PGA Tour returns to Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club to finish out the Florida Swing this week at the 2014 Valspar Championship. Chicago-area native Kevin Streelman is the defending champion, however we haven't heard too much from Streels this season. It would be nice to see him turn in another solid performance at this event, but there are a number of smarter fantasy golf picks this week.

Luke Donald seems to be a name popping up in multiple expert picks, so I'll play along and choose him as well. Graham DeLaet is in a similar situation, especially since he's already recorded two second-place finishes so far this season. Neither man is a stranger to playing in the spotlight, so I feel they are the top picks for this week.

Jason Dufner and Matt Kuchar are probably the two most popular players in the tournament field, with Duff getting the start in my B-List while Donald edges Kuchar in the A-List.

Fantasy Golf Picks 2014: WGC - Cadillac Championship

WGC-Cadillac-Championship-e1394030938433.jpg

2014 wgc cadillac Will he or won't he? That's the biggest question on every fantasy golf player's mind heading into this week's 2014 World Golf Championships - Cadillac Championship. Tiger Woods has a bad back. Again. As of Wednesday morning, there was no official word on whether or not Tiger will defend his title this week at Doral. That's not good for people like you and me who need to throw together a fantasy golf picks roster.

Here's a word of advice: don't play Tiger this week. That probably means he'll end up winning by like 20 shots, but play the odds and go with someone else in the A Group. I went with Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald, even though the former has had back issues already this season. The only difference between Phil and Tiger is that Lefty has had time to heal.

I'm going with an unofficial rule this year: if Miguel Angel Jimenez is available, I'm putting him on my roster. Every damn time. Not only is he the Most Interesting Golfer in the World, but he's still playing extremely well as of late.

Rory McIlroy and Jason Day are no-brainers as both men have been in the final pairing in each of their respective tournaments. I feel like that's a really poor sentence I just wrote. Meh, who cares? You know what I mean. PLAY THEM THIS WEEK.

Fantasy Golf Picks: 2014 Honda Classic

2014-Logo-Honda-Classic.jpg

honda classic fantasy golfAll the big boys are back this week on the PGA Tour for the 2014 Honda Classic at PGA National. Tiger Woods makes his return to action after a piss-poor showing at this year's Farmers Insurance Open. The Honda Classic also marks the beginning of his unofficial Masters prep, which is likely the case for many of his fellow competitors this week.

As you can see by my fantasy golf picks above, I'm not going out on any limbs this week. Only the biggest names are on my roster (well, with the exception of Chris Kirk and Matsuyama) because I need a win on my year stat totals. To date, I've only recorded three Top 10 finishes, one Top 3 and a big ol' goose egg in the "wins" column.

Expect big things out of young Rory McIlroy this week. He's won here before, he played really damn well in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago and won't have any cacti to hit golf balls into at PGA National. Besides, this is supposed to be the year he gets things back on track.

pebble beach fantasy golfThe stars are out at Pebble Beach this week for the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, but most golf fans will be closely watching Phil Mickelson's back all four rounds. Literally.

Mickelson has always played well at Pebble and makes his return to an event he skipped last season. Will his nagging sore back keep him from contention this week, or will he be able to scale back his golf swing a bit to stay healthy? He's not exactly a spring chicken these days.

Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion but has been battling putter woes over the last few weeks. It should be interesting to see if he can get the flatstick working this week. He's still a solid fantasy golf pick.

The most interesting group comes from Yahoo's C-List roster, including Pat Perez and Ryan Palmer. Both men have played extremely well to start the season, including Palmer's two top-10 finishes in only three tournaments.

EDIT: Correction; Phil Mickelson did play in the 2013 event, but finished T-60. Which means I need to pay attention more.
