Thorpe Sentenced to Prison

At the conclusion of what has become a rather drawn-out legal proceeding, professional golfer Jim Thorpe has been sentenced to a 1-year prison term for tax evasion.

According to the New York Times, Thorpe was found guilty of failing to pay more than $2 million in taxes over the years. Thorpe's attorney, Mark Horowitz, stated that the golfer has until April 1 to turn himself in to authorities and begin his prison term.

The PGA Tour also released a statement regarding the matter:

''While it is unfortunate and regrettable that this is the final
resolution, Jim has taken responsibility for his actions and has expressed his
remorse,'' the PGA Tour said in a statement.

The 60-year old golfer is a staple on the Champion's Tour and has 13 victories, including 3 additional wins on the PGA Tour.
