On this week's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast we cover a number of topics that are sure to whet your golf nerd appetite better than Mountain Dew and Doritos! First I offer my take on the whole Suzann Pettersen/Solheim Cup debacle. Should that putt have been conceded? Who was wrong, and who was right? I present three trains of thought on this topic and explain why I think, ultimately, that Pettersen is getting more abuse than she deserves.

Next, I give a quick preview of the Tour Championship and the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top five players are set, so who is most likely to take home the FedEx Cup trophy? I also run through my DraftKings fantasy golf picks which are sure to not win me a dime.

Finally I cover an interesting article from Golf Digest about how damn far PGA players are hitting the golf ball. Big hat-tip to Joel Beall for his in-depth statistical view of how the distance game has grown over the last few years.

Henrik Stenson Wins FedExCup Title, Cash

---art_henrik_stenson_20130923090643313433-620x349Henrik Stenson played a magnificent 72 holes of golf last week to win the 2013 Tour Championship and the overall FedExCup Playoffs trophy. He also won $11.4 million combined in the process. Yowzers.

Stenson, who is as well known for his on-the-course anger management issues as he is for his golf game, is certainly a deserving 2013 PGA Season champion. His triumph undoubtedly marks his biggest achievement to date, and hopefully he'll use some of the money to buy a golf shirt with properly fitting sleeves.

On the other end of the spectrum, of course, was Tiger Woods. Weighted as the heavy favorite to win the FedExCup prior to the playoffs, Woods finished a disappointing second in the final standings behind Stenson. His play at East Lake was equally as disappointing, coming as the result of "running out of gas" according to Woods.

Which, of course, is puzzling.

Woods is certainly allowed to be tired. As much as his dissenters may have you believe otherwise, Woods is still human. However, he is also a man who plays far fewer events in a calendar year -- 16 events in 2013 -- than his peers. Woods is also one of the most athletic and conditioned players on the PGA Tour. Is it possible that he was really too tired to play just one more event for the season?

Well, before the Presidents Cup. And an exhibition match in China against Rory McIlroy. Can't forget about those.

At any rate, Stenson deserves the spotlight as we close the final chapter on the 2013 PGA Tour season. Should he continue his strong play into 2014, there is no doubt Stenson will be a favorite to win a major next year.

Fantasy Golf Picks: Tour Championship by Coca-Cola

First of all, can I just say that the name of this tournament is ridiculous? "...by Coca-Cola"? Come on.

Anyway, the PGA TOUR season comes to an end this week in Atlanta as the FedEx Cup will be awarded to one of 30 players at the Tour Championship. Atlanta Athletic Club is a tough track historically, so I wouldn't expect low numbers like we saw at Cog Hill last week at the BMW. Webb Simpson is your FedEx leader going in, however names like Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, and many others are within striking distance to capture the Cup. Oh, and the winner of the Cup gets $10 million, which is nice. Here are my fantasy golf picks for the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola.

A List

Starter: Dustin Johnson; Bench: Matt Kuchar

DJ started the Playoffs with a victory then promptly fell off the face of the planet in his next three tournaments. What gives, Dustin? And here I thought he would be a sure pick to win the whole she-bang. Granted, he could still win the Cup with a strong showing here, however only if he can get his short game in order. Matt Kuchar has played well at this course in the past, so he may be a good fantasy reserve this week. By the way: Kuchar almost became the latest contestant in "Let's Make a Mockery of the FedEx Cup". Read more of that debacle here.

B List

Starters: Justin Rose, Webb Simpson; Bench: Hunter Mahan, Bill Haas

Last week's winner is a no-brainer for Atlanta. Just Rose played unbelievable golf at the BMW Championship, and even held off a terrible back-nine on Sunday to still capture the title. Webb Simpson is also riding out a hot streak as of late and is your FedEx Cup leader going in to the Tour Championship. Other names like Mahan and Haas are still within striking distance of winning the Cup, however they will need to actually win the tournament to do so. I think. How do these point systems work again?  Who cares.

C List

Starter: Adam Scott; Bench: Jason Day

Did I ever tell you guys the time when I took a leak next to Adam Scott at the BMW Championship? I haven't? Well, I just did. Besides that, Scott will need a strong showing this week to cap off a successful 2011 season and potentially $10 million. Jason Day is simply a pick for fantasy golf points this week for me, assuming that Scott goes to the crapper. Ha! See? Everything went full circle there.
