Today on the podcast I welcome back "The Old Lady," Kristen, to the show to recap one of the more exciting major tournaments in recent memory: the 2017 Masters. Kristen -- who moonlights as my wife -- offers takes that only she can provide on everything from Sergio Garcia being a cry-baby to Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler not playing up to their caliber. We also briefly touch on Twitter's Secret Tour Pro and what she thinks about running an anonymous social media account.

Brendan Porath, Golf Editor and Staff Writer for SBNation.com, joins the podcast this evening. Brendan and I talk the difference between Tiger Woods's health and that of Phil Mickelson and the paths both have taken to sustain their success on the course. We also discuss what our expectations should be from the new greats in golf, including Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy. Finally, we opine how golf should be covered in the social media age and if transparency from players is a good thing.

PODCAST 78: Reviewing the 2016 Major Championship Season

Chris Chaney of Swing by Swing joins the show to review the major championship season, preview the Ryder Cup, and more!

2016-majors.jpg

Golf writer Chris Chaney (Swing by Swing) joins me on tonight's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast to trade takes on the 2016 major championship season. We cover all four majors, their respective winners, and what it means (if anything) that none of the Big Three came out on top this year. Does parity on the PGA Tour hurt or help the game? Will we be forced to watch boring tournament finishes like what we saw at Baltusrol?

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 72: 2016 US Open Picks

On this week's podcast I ramble on about the 2016 US Open, who will make the cut, who won't, and who I think will be this year's champion.

dustin-e1461198508675.jpg

In what can only be described as a last-minute podcast, this week's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast features me rambling for 20 minutes about the 2016 US Open at Oakmont. I run down a few thoughts on the favorites for the tournament, why I think Jason Day won't make the cut, and why Dustin Johnson will win. Actually... I go into more reasons why he won't win... but I'm still picking him, dammit!

The Golf Unfiltered Podcast is back! This week is all about protecting the narrative, what that means in golf media, and much more!

After a two week hiatus, the Golf Unfiltered Podcast is back! This week it all about protecting the narrative. What should we be talking about in the world of golf, no matter how minuscule and trivial that thing might be? Is Jordan Spieth a good ballstriker? Is Rickie Fowler overrated? Who the hell cares?

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 68: Don't be hatin' on Bryson DeChambeau

On this week's episode we discuss why people hate Bryson DeChambeau, toils at the driving range, and horrible Spring Break pictures.

bryson-dechambeau.png

I'm riding solo again this week on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast, but luckily there is plenty to talk about in the golf space (plus there's plenty of beer in my fridge). Today's episode starts off with me ranting about my golf game toils and tribulations after playing one of the worst rounds of golf I've played in a long time. I then share my thoughts on Bryson DeChambeau and why he's such a polarizing figure. I even manage to work in my thoughts on the Spring Break Escapades of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler and Smylie Kaufman.

VIDEO: Watch Jordan Spieth hit the worst golf shot ever

An Instagram video has surfaced showing Jordan Spieth hitting one of the worst golf shots of all time on the driving range. Check this out.

jordanspiethshot.png

Jordan Spieth has been struggling recently with his game, so when this Instagram video surfaced of the Wonder Kid almost killing everyone on the driving range you couldn't help but laugh. We come across a ton of funny golf videos over the interwebs, and while we don't repost many on this site, some are just too good to pass over.

Spieth is warming up on the driving range prior to a tournament round (not sure which tournament; help me out, internet detectives!) and standing a little too close to the tee marker. What happens next is something that can only be described as "DUCK!!" (Video is a regram from @Golf_Gods)

A video posted by Adam (@golfunfiltered) on

You have to love Spieth's reaction when he has absolutely no idea where that golf ball flew after ricocheting off the tee marker. I can't tell if that was a pure hosel-rocket, a skulled wedge, or the thinnest-struck shot in the history of professional golf. Whatever happened, Spieth managed to hit the tee marker and his basket of balls in one swing. That's some Grade-A shankapotomous skill, folks.

Luckily this took place on the range and not during competition.

Though I'm not gonna lie: I've 100 percent had this happen to me during a round.

We then discuss Tiger Woods and how his career path compares to other greats in different sports, including examples like Peyton Manning and Kobe Bryant; two stars who are nearing the end of their respective careers.

RyanB-e1443655783600.jpeg

Ryan Ballengee, owner and editor at Golf News Net is back on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast this week to talk Jordan Spieth, golf writing and much more. First, Ryan and I recap the Year of Jordan and all the greatness that came with it. Was this a one-hit wonder from a talented youngster or the beginning of golf's new superstar? How does Jordan's year truly compare to those of other greats like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus? Is he truly the best player in the world or just the product of a complicated golf ranking system?

We then shift gears into a discussion about golf writing and golf blogging. Are there similarities between the two, are they different, or is it an argument that has to be left alone? Ryan and I also touch on a recent article of his discussing press releases and how there's a misconception on readership opportunity for those products.

This is definitely an episode for golf fans, golf nerds and golf writers alike!

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 37: Suzann Pettersen got a raw deal

On this week's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast we cover a number of topics that are sure to whet your golf nerd appetite better than Mountain Dew and Doritos! First I offer my take on the whole Suzann Pettersen/Solheim Cup debacle. Should that putt have been conceded? Who was wrong, and who was right? I present three trains of thought on this topic and explain why I think, ultimately, that Pettersen is getting more abuse than she deserves.

Next, I give a quick preview of the Tour Championship and the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top five players are set, so who is most likely to take home the FedEx Cup trophy? I also run through my DraftKings fantasy golf picks which are sure to not win me a dime.

Finally I cover an interesting article from Golf Digest about how damn far PGA players are hitting the golf ball. Big hat-tip to Joel Beall for his in-depth statistical view of how the distance game has grown over the last few years.

On this episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast I break down the Player of the Year chatter before getting into a quick preview of the Deutsche Bank Championship. There's been a lot of talk about Player of the Year on social media and the interwebs, specifically on whether Jordan Spieth or Jason Day should take home the title. I compare the two players' respective seasons both statistically and practically before offering my pick for POY honors... at least right now.

I then go into a brief preview of the 2015 Deutsche Bank Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. we talk a little DraftKings, we talk a little bit about what goes in to getting PGA Tour tournament credentials... all sorts of fun stuff.

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 30: Hot Takes in San Antonio

This week on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast, Adam is sweatin' hard in San Antonio over some hot takes on Jordan, Tiger, the Big 3 and more!

alamo-e1440540623949.jpg

This week's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast is brought to you by San Antonio: the Devil's playground! We've got a raw version of the podcast as I huddle over my smartphone in hot as fuck sunny San Antonio to talk about two of the biggest narratives that have grown throughout the 2015 PGA Tour season:

  1. Tiger Woods of 2000 vs. Jordan Spieth of 2015, and...
  2. Do we really need a new 'Big 3' in professional golf?

I offer a few scalding takes on both topics in an attempt to match the weather, but all I really manage to do is sweat all over my phone and try to avoid the pubic hairs blowing on the air conditioner. I swear those are not mine. I swear.

VIDEO: Jordan Spieth's pre-round warm-up routine

This video shows the entire pre-round warm-up routine of World No. 1 Jordan Spieth prior to a recent tournament. Take a look, you might learn something.

jordanrange-e1440030593261.jpg

PGA Tour media has been killing it lately with a wide range of YouTube videos focusing on players' pre-round warm-up routines. Not only do the videos provide a behind-the-scenes look at some of the biggest names on Tour, they also serve as a helpful reminder that practice makes perfect, even for the world's best. Jordan Spieth's pre-round warm-up isn't anything out of the ordinary, but very systematic and consistent from one tournament to the next.

In fact, you might say it's downright robotic. But that doesn't mean it isn't effective.

Pay close attention to the percentage of shots under 100 yards he hits in his warm-up.

Golf Unfiltered Podcast: The Old Lady Returns

On today's emergency episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast, we welcome back Mrs. Golf Unfiltered to talk about the PGA Championship. Hold on to your butts.

On today's EMERGENCY episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast, The Old Lady (aka "my wife") makes her triumphant return to talk about the PGA Championship! Kristen and I discuss everything you could possibly hope to know about this season's final major:

  • Why are bunkers so stupid?
  • How many drugs does Dustin Johnson do?
  • Why does Rory McIlroy have to be such a pansy?
  • And isn't that Jordan Spieth fellow just so damn mature?

Plus, Kristen offers her rundown of how she thinks the biggest names in the sport (except Sergio Garcia, who she says is the "LeBron James of golf") will fare this week at Whistling Straits.

Always a crowd favorite. Never disappoints. The Old Lady once again makes her mark on the golf world.

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 27: Chris Chaney

This week on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast we welcome Chris Chaney, the newest member to the GU writer family. We talk Rory, Jordan, PGA Champs and more!

chrischaney-e1439342605814.jpg

Today on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast we welcome the newest writer to the GU Family, Chris Chaney! Not only does Chris cover the PGA Tour tournament recaps and previews for our site, but he also runs an amazing golf blog over at WrongFairway.com.

In this episode we cover a quick recap of Shane Lowry's win at the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone. Why can't Jim Furyk finish a 54-hole lead? What happened to Justin Rose down the stretch on Sunday? Chris and I also talk a bit about Lowry's golf swing, you know, because we're golf swing experts.

We then jump into this week's PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. How will Rory McIlroy fare at his first tournament since injuring his ankle playing soccer? Will Jordan Spieth win a third major this season? We also debate whether or not distance off the tee plays as strong a role toward winning a tournament as it once did in the past (h/t to Luke Kerr-Dineen and Shane Ryan there).

Finally, Chris and I offer our DraftKings Fantasy Golf picks for the week. Definitely an episode you don't want to miss!

DraftKings fantasy golf picks: 2015 PGA Championship

The 2015 PGA Championship tees off this week and we have your DraftKings fantasy golf picks right here! Plus, play for FREE using our promo code.

wanamaker-trophy-grass-e1439220151210.jpg

The final major of the year tees off this week as the best golfers in the world (and Tiger Woods) converge onto Whistling Straits in Wisconsin for the 2015 PGA Championship. There are many DraftKings fantasy golf pick values in play this week, so let's get right into it. Remember to click the banner below and use promo code UNFILTERED to play for free!

Rory McIlroy may be in the field this week, but Jordan Spieth is easily the favorite heading in, having won The Masters and US Open earlier this season. He's the highest-priced pick this week ($12,500) and deservedly so. Luckily, there are multiple high-value "scrubs" at DraftKings this week, so go ahead and add Spieth to your roster free of worry.

Louis Oosthuizen has fallen back to earth a bit since his strong showing at the British Open, but his moderately-high DraftKings salary ($9,100) is still worth your consideration for the PGA. King Louis seems to only show up at majors, and his mastery of the links-style Chambers Bay and St. Andrews should be more than enough to convince you he'll do the same at Whistling Straits this week.

James Morrison is a name more common on the European Tour, which may play into his insane value of $7,200 this week. Morrison has only played one PGA Tour event this year but managed 15 birdies and 49 pars, leading to a strong 70.3 fantasy point average in that start. He's got one win on the Euro Tour this year -- The Spanish Open in May -- and has three straight top-25 finishes in his last three starts.

Danny Lee is another value pick at $7,100 despite his strong showing at last week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (T-6). He has a streak of five top-25 finishes in his last six events, including his first career PGA Tour win at The Greenbrier in a playoff. He did miss the cut at last month's British Open, however, which begs the question on how he'll hold up in the spotlight of a major.

How in the world is Patrick Reed priced at just $7,600 this week? The polarizing PGA youngster has made 20 of 22 cuts this year including a win in Hawaii back in January. He's averaged over 75 fantasy points per tournament start. He's got four top-10's this year. You'll be stupid not to put him on your DraftKings roster for the year's last major.

Finally, Brendan Steele might be the 'steal' of the week. At only $6,500 in DraftKings dollars, you're getting top-value for Steele's four top-10's, 16 eagles, 286 birdies and 17-of-20 made cuts this year. No, he probably won't win the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday, but Steele is a lock to make the weekend.

DraftKings Fantasy Golf Pick Roster

  1. Jordan Spieth
  2. Louis Oosthuizen
  3. Patrick Reed
  4. James Morrison
  5. Danny Lee
  6. Brendan Steele

GU Podcast 22: British Open picks and Jordan Spieth's legend

It's British Open week on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast, and we talk fantasy golf picks, Jordan Spieth and what he means to golf history.

claret-jug-1024x685-e1436888486596.jpg

It's British Open Week on the Golf Unfiltered Podcast and the first of this week's episodes covers my fantasy golf picks, Jordan Spieth's race to history and what it should mean to golf fans everywhere. I open with a brief discussion on the ongoing "Spieth Slam" as young Jordan tries to win his third major of the year at St. Andrews. We haven't seen anything like this since Tiger Woods in 2000-2001, and nobody has won the first three majors of the season since Ben Hogan in 1953. I also touch on what it was like to watch Tiger captivate the world 15 years ago and how Spieth's charisma can drive the same excitement today.

Finally, I offer my picks for the 2015 British Open, including who I think will win this week.

rory-foot-e1436285818860.jpg

Riding solo on today's podcast as I recap some of the more newsworthy items from the past week. This episode starts off discussing Rory McIlroy's ridiculous ankle injury and the even more ridiculous hot takes from the media that soon followed. What are Rory's chances to play in the British Open? Do we really expect these superstar athletes to live in a bubble? If so, I'd bet that bubble comes with Netflix.

The topic shifts to Danny Lee's first win on the PGA Tour, what it means for his career and what we can expect from the youngster moving forward.

Finally, any podcast wouldn't be complete without a few minutes discussing Tiger Woods. How did his swing look this week at The Greenbrier? Why in the world won't Tiger heed the advice on my Twitter feed and slow his swing tempo down? What are his chances at the wide-open St. Andrews course in a couple weeks?
