On this week's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast we cover a number of topics that are sure to whet your golf nerd appetite better than Mountain Dew and Doritos! First I offer my take on the whole Suzann Pettersen/Solheim Cup debacle. Should that putt have been conceded? Who was wrong, and who was right? I present three trains of thought on this topic and explain why I think, ultimately, that Pettersen is getting more abuse than she deserves.

Next, I give a quick preview of the Tour Championship and the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top five players are set, so who is most likely to take home the FedEx Cup trophy? I also run through my DraftKings fantasy golf picks which are sure to not win me a dime.

Finally I cover an interesting article from Golf Digest about how damn far PGA players are hitting the golf ball. Big hat-tip to Joel Beall for his in-depth statistical view of how the distance game has grown over the last few years.

EMERGENCY Golf Unfiltered Podcast: Tiger Woods back surgery

With the breaking news about the latest Tiger Woods back surgery, The Old Lady hops on the podcast to offer her take on the crumbling golf superstar.

woods_silhouette-e1442622249562.jpg

What better way to discuss the late breaking news about the latest Tiger Woods back surgery earlier in the week than by welcoming back fan-favorite Kristen to the show? Kristen, a.k.a "The Old Lady", and I toss around various ridiculous takes on Tiger's surprise microdiscectomy on Wednesday of this week. Why can't this guy stay healthy? Should his doctors be to blame? Perhaps it is his workout regimen? There appears to be more questions than answers on this topic.

Next, and by complete surprise to me, Kristen whips out a list of notes and rapid-fire questions to bombard me with for about 20 minutes. Definitely the most uncomfortable I've felt on the podcast since it began! THANKS KRISTEN.

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 35: 2015 BMW Championship and World Rankings

The Golf Unfiltered Podcast makes its triumphant return this week with Matt Castonguay to talk World Golf Rankings and the BMW Championship.

Adam-Logo-iTunes-e1439915189658.jpg

The Golf Unfiltered Podcast is back after a week-long hiatus, and Matt Castonguay from BunkersParadise.com is back to shower us with his golden thoughts. Matt and I have an in-depth discussion about the Official World Golf Rankings that ultimately leads down a rabbit hole of despair. Does the system work? Is there a better way to rank the world's best golfers? Do we even need a system and if so, what purpose will it serve? WHY DOESN'T MATT KNOW MORE MATH?

We then switch gears and preview the 2015 BMW Championship from SWEET HOME CHICAGO (Conway Farms). How's the course going to lay out? Which players will take what they learned from 2013 and apply it to this week? We answer these questions and more on today's episode.

Golf Unfiltered Podcast 33: Player of the Year and Deutsche Bank Championship

On today's episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast we comment on the Player of the Year discussion, plus give our picks for this week's Deutsche Bank!

Adam-Logo-iTunes-e1439915189658.jpg

On this episode of the Golf Unfiltered Podcast I break down the Player of the Year chatter before getting into a quick preview of the Deutsche Bank Championship. There's been a lot of talk about Player of the Year on social media and the interwebs, specifically on whether Jordan Spieth or Jason Day should take home the title. I compare the two players' respective seasons both statistically and practically before offering my pick for POY honors... at least right now.

I then go into a brief preview of the 2015 Deutsche Bank Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. we talk a little DraftKings, we talk a little bit about what goes in to getting PGA Tour tournament credentials... all sorts of fun stuff.

BMW Championship Returning to Conway Farms in 2015

IMGP3118-hole-17-b_-_Copy.550x367This week the PGA Tour announced that the 2015 BMW Championship will be returning to Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. The tournament was last held at the north suburb course in 2013 and was one of the more exciting BMW Championships in recent years. While Zach Johnson came out as the eventual winner, the tournament was highlighted by Jim Furyk's incredible 59 (with a bogey!) during the third round. This year's tournament is being held at Cherry Hills Country Club just outside of Denver.

“The overwhelming support we received from Chicagoland golf fans, the professionalism of the staff at Conway Farms and the hospitality of its members made the decision to return to Conway Farms an easy one,” said Vince Pellegrino, the Western Golf Association’s senior vice president of tournaments. “We received some great feedback from the 2013 BMW Championship, which will help us make the 2015 BMW Championship even better when we return to Chicago’s North Shore.”

Having attended all four days of last year's tournament, I can say that I was incredibly impressed by how well Conway Farms served as the home to its first PGA Tour event. While the course was hard to navigate as a spectator in some areas, the overall experience was something I will not soon forget.

Fantasy Golf Picks: 2012 Tour Championship

The final stage of the FedEx Cup Playoffs tees off this week at the 2012 Tour Championship from East Lake in Atlanta, GA. All eyes will be on Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods - again - as both men square-off for a chance at winning the FedEx Cup and a $10 million winners purse. Since I'm not able to use Woods again this week, McIlroy is my top pick. It's been a fun season folks, and here's looking forward to even more fantasy golf fun next year.

Fantasy Golf Picks: Tour Championship by Coca-Cola

First of all, can I just say that the name of this tournament is ridiculous? "...by Coca-Cola"? Come on.

Anyway, the PGA TOUR season comes to an end this week in Atlanta as the FedEx Cup will be awarded to one of 30 players at the Tour Championship. Atlanta Athletic Club is a tough track historically, so I wouldn't expect low numbers like we saw at Cog Hill last week at the BMW. Webb Simpson is your FedEx leader going in, however names like Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, and many others are within striking distance to capture the Cup. Oh, and the winner of the Cup gets $10 million, which is nice. Here are my fantasy golf picks for the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola.

A List

Starter: Dustin Johnson; Bench: Matt Kuchar

DJ started the Playoffs with a victory then promptly fell off the face of the planet in his next three tournaments. What gives, Dustin? And here I thought he would be a sure pick to win the whole she-bang. Granted, he could still win the Cup with a strong showing here, however only if he can get his short game in order. Matt Kuchar has played well at this course in the past, so he may be a good fantasy reserve this week. By the way: Kuchar almost became the latest contestant in "Let's Make a Mockery of the FedEx Cup". Read more of that debacle here.

B List

Starters: Justin Rose, Webb Simpson; Bench: Hunter Mahan, Bill Haas

Last week's winner is a no-brainer for Atlanta. Just Rose played unbelievable golf at the BMW Championship, and even held off a terrible back-nine on Sunday to still capture the title. Webb Simpson is also riding out a hot streak as of late and is your FedEx Cup leader going in to the Tour Championship. Other names like Mahan and Haas are still within striking distance of winning the Cup, however they will need to actually win the tournament to do so. I think. How do these point systems work again?  Who cares.

C List

Starter: Adam Scott; Bench: Jason Day

Did I ever tell you guys the time when I took a leak next to Adam Scott at the BMW Championship? I haven't? Well, I just did. Besides that, Scott will need a strong showing this week to cap off a successful 2011 season and potentially $10 million. Jason Day is simply a pick for fantasy golf points this week for me, assuming that Scott goes to the crapper. Ha! See? Everything went full circle there.
