BMW Championship is Under Way!

The PGA Tour returns to Cog Hill Country Club in Lemont, Illinois today with the third leg of the FedEx Playoffs: the BMW Championship.

As play opened this morning, those golfers who survived last week's elimination at the Deutsche Bank Championship started the next stage in quest of earning a position in the Top 5 FedEx points leaders. Culminating in Atlanta at the Tour Championship, these Top 5 players will have a chance at winning the Cup thanks largely in part to a new playoff system this season on Tour.

As it currently stands, Steve Stricker is your FedEx Point leader with 5,605 points while Tiger Woods is in second position at 4,696. The full Top 5 leaderboard list is as follows:

1st - Steve Stricker - 5,605 points

2nd - Tiger Woods - 4,696 points

3rd - Heath Slocum - 2,855 points

4th - Zach Johnson - 2,481 points

5th - Scott Verplank - 2,266 points

The BMW Championship may prove to be a turning point, however, for the entire playoffs as this week's winner will receive an additional 2,500 points (and not to mention the largest share of a $7,500,000 purse). To break down the Top 10 finishers and the points each position will receive is as follows:

1st place - 2,500 pts

2nd place - 1,500

3rd place - 1,000

4th place - 750

5th place - 550

6th place - 500

7th place - 450

8th place - 425

9th place - 400

10th place - 375
