BGT Brava Fairway Wood Shaft Review

Breakthrough Golf Technology (BGT) has been around for years, bringing golfers better stability and performance in golf shafts throughout the bag. Founder Barney Adams, a legendary clubmaker for decades, hits another home run with BGT’s new Brava shaft line.

The BGT Brava fairway wood shafts are accompanied by a number of eye-popping claims, including “10 more yards” when compared to other leading shaft brands. Was this shaft able to live up to the hype?

BGT Brava Fairway Wood Shaft Technology

As has been the main feature of all BGT golf shafts, the Brava fairway wood shaft boasts incredibly stability, low oscillation, and materials to optimize launch conditions for a golfer’s swing speed. This premium priced ($389.99) shaft option is constructed out of high-quality carbon fiber and Brava’s exclusive Speedflite NRG tech.

The result is a golf shaft with minimal lag that translates to the need for less energy when swinging the club. Coupled with a lightweight design (under 60g), golfers are free to swing without maximum effort and still experience a stable, controllable and powerful golf shot every time.

Performance and Feel

As someone who has a moderate swing tempo and speed (hovering around 100mph with a driver), the BGT Brava shaft line seemed right up my alley. I have a tendency to over-swing in order to squeeze a little more distance out of my shots, so I was interested to see if what Brava offers will translate to my game.

I was not disappointed.

After installing the Brava shaft into a previous season’s 3-wood, I immediately saw impressive numbers with the first swing. The shaft felt extremely stable without being too stout or stiff, especially during the transition to my follow-through. I prefer to feel some shaft loading in my hands during this point in my swing, and while the Brava was certainly minimal, it still offered just enough feedback.

Shot dispersion was most impressive with the Brava. It seemed as if my fairway wood was on autopilot as the shaft delivered shots that were almost carbon copies of each other. Launch, spin, and ball speed were also highly impressive, providing me numbers that I would normally see with my driver.

This also resulted in greater distances than previous shafts I’ve tried with the same fairway wood club head. Total shot distance (carry + rollout) was consistently 10-15 yards farther than the previously installed shaft, while shot dispersion was tighter.

Overall Impression

The BGT Brava fairway wood golf shaft is an absolute winner. The performance and consistency this shaft offered cannot be overstated. While some golfers may balk at the price tag, I can assure you that what the Brava shaft offers is worth every penny.
