Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand Bag Review

Sun Mountain has long been known to offer some of the best golf bags on the market. The Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand Bag is no exception, offering a lightweight design, plenty of pockets, and a 4-way club divider system that will keep your game organized this golf season. At under $260 retail, the 3.5 LS Stand Bag in undoubtedly a leader in this product category.

Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand Bag Details

Per the brand website, the 3.5LS is designed for the golfer who loves our popular 2.5+ but wants a few more features. Like the 2.5+, the 3.5LS is constructed with lightweight nylon fabric, high-strength-to-weight plastic, and carbon fiber legs. Adding a pound allowed Sun Mountain to provide several more pockets, a comfort-grip handle and an updated strap system.

Offered in eight different color combinations, the 3.5 LS packs a lot of features into a bag that remains super lightweight and manageable. There’s nothing worse, in my opinion, than a stand bag that tries too hard to be a staff bag. The 3.5 LS excels in what it was designed to do: keep you organized while providing a design that you can carry on your shoulders as easily as strapping it to a golf cart.

Ten pockets surround the bag’s design, including a water-resistant, velour-lined valuables pouch for cell phones, watches, jewelry, or anything else you might need to protect. A hydration pouch keeps a water bottle cool while a full-length apparel pocket allows for storage of a rain suit or jacket. Multiple accessory pockets add storage for anything else you need to bring with you on the course.

Finally, the E-Z Dual Strap System is perfectly comfortable for walking rounds and allows for double- or single-strap carrying, whichever your preference.

Performance and Impressions

The Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand Bag works wonderfully as a carry bag while also performs well when strapped to a golf cart. Allow me to explain that latter point.

Some golf bags with stand legs simply do not sit well on the back of a golf cart. I am someone who prefers to ride in a cart, but will hoof it from time to time. I need a golf bag, then, that can double as both. If my stand bag doesn’t sit straight or securely on the back of a golf cart — especially when driving on a hilly course — then I need to stop, adjust the golf bag and cart strap, and proceed to become quite annoyed. Over time, the golf bag can become damaged as it rubs and slips around the back of a golf cart.

The 3.5 LS sits securely with minor slippage or jostling around on the back of any golf cart. However, I will admit that this bag performs best as a carry bag.

The 3.5 LS is very lightweight and is easily carried on your shoulders thanks to the dual-strap system. Adequate padding on the side of the bag adds to its overall comfort when being carried. All pockets are accessible and open easily, while any valuables you store in the bag are safe and secure. I also like the thin-yet-durable outer material of the bag, which leads me to believe it will remain clean and tear-free for many years.

Overall, the Sun Mountain 3.5 LS Stand Bag is a great golf bag option, especially if you prefer to carry your clubs. You’ll be hardpressed to find anything to critique in this golf bag, and it should be on your short list of purchases to consider this season.
